Chemung County Receives $481,797 for Year-Round Youth Employment Program

State allocation will support employment, education, and career opportunities for eligible youth ages 14 through 20

Chemung County has received a $481,797 allocation through New York State's 2026-2027 Youth Employment Program. The year-round program is designed to expand employment opportunities for eligible youth while helping reduce community gun violence and youth involvement in the criminal justice system.

The Youth Employment Program serves eligible young people ages 14 through 20 from households that meet Temporary Assistance for Needy Families requirements. State guidance places priority on at-risk and vulnerable youth, including young people affected by violence, youth in foster care, homeless and runaway youth, and youth with disabilities.

Program funding may support paid employment, transportation and other supportive services, case management, incentive payments, financial literacy training, and limited education or career exploration activities. Under State requirements, at least 80 percent of participants must be engaged in traditional paid employment activities.

CSS Workforce will develop Chemung County's initial implementation plan, with programming anticipated to begin within the next several months. The County will then explore coordination with the Summer Youth Employment Program administered through the Chemung County Youth Bureau to align participation and help eligible youth move between seasonal and year-round opportunities.

The State's 2026-2027 Youth Employment Program operates through June 30, 2027. Additional local program details, including how and when eligible youth may apply, will be announced after the implementation plan is finalized.
